Meet Afshin Nayeri

Southwest Technical Sales Manager

What was your background prior to joining Kice?

Out of college, I was a sales engineer for High Shear Mixers in the North American market.  My next role was a manufactures representative for agitators, metering pumps, centrifugal pumps, high shear mixers, and wastewater equipment in Southern California, which was my first exposure to larger system designs.  After that, I became a product manager for jet mills selling them internationally.  My last role was very similar to my current role, an industry manager handling larger dry bulk handling processes.

Tell me a little bit about your day-to-day job currently?

I assist customers with everything from basic equipment capabilities and sizing to more complex solutions, which involve learning about their process goals and assembling the equipment to achieve their goals.  Most projects require a site visit to ensure all the details are correctly captured, which means lots of windshield time, especially in California.

Working at Kice

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I genuinely enjoy using the knowledge that has been passed on to me over the past 20 years and applying it to help customers.  Nearly every project has a nuance/challenge that requires some thought to make sure the solution works reliably.

Can you share one of the things that are unique about working at Kice?

The people are genuine and great people.  It’s not often you get to work with people who go the extra mile to help each other and our customers.  It makes working for and representing the company a pleasure.

What have been some of your most rewarding on-the-job experiences?

The most rewarding experiences are walking into a plant where we have either installed a new system or an entire process and when I ask if they need any assistance, the response is “no, everything is working fine.”  That means that we at Kice have done our jobs well.  I also appreciate the customer trust that comes with these successes.

Personal Side of Afshin

Tell us a little bit about your family

I’ve been married to my wonderful wife Beatriz for nearly 20 years, and we have a son Nicolas 16, and daughter Olivia 12.  We also have two dogs, Biscuit and Cali, which are both rescues and a great addition to our family.

What is the best place you have traveled to and why?

Southern Italy, I love the food, history, and architecture.

If you could have dinner and drinks with anyone famous (dead or alive), who would it be and why?

Lee Iacocca, his ability to sell and bring a company back from the brink of bankruptcy, is inspirational.

What is your secret talent that most people don’t know?

Concours level car detailing. I started cleaning cars as a kid to make some extra money and learned from some top professionals along the way.

You are throwing a spontaneous dinner party with five of your friends- what do you make?

If it’s truly spontaneous, it would have to be steaks since there’s little prep time. If I have a couple of days notice it would be smoked brisket.  I’m not much of a cook otherwise.

What is the weirdest thing you have eaten?

Escargot (snails)

What’s the one movie you will always stop and watch when channel surfing?

Depends on my mood. But most James Bone movies, Tommy Boy, Top Gun, Spaceballs, or any Indiana Jones movie.

What was your dream job as a kid?

Racecar driver.

What are your go-to activities outside of work?

Mountain biking and cars.

Have you ever had something happen to you that you thought was bad, but it turned out to be for the best?

Not getting the promotion I wanted which lead to finding another job which was a much better fit.

Would you rather go skydiving or take a ride in a hot air balloon? Why?

I have gone skydiving, and I’ve never been in a hot air balloon, so I would pick the balloon.
