Meet Jon Johnson
This month we are proud to celebrate Jon Johnson working 30 years at Kice Industries. Jon has worked in four different decades and two centuries. He began his career here on August 24th 1988 and has worn many different hats through the years. He has also had the pleasure of working with three of the four generations of the Kice Family.
What has been your background at Kice?
I started off packing freight and pounding nails in the shipping department and it wasn’t long before I move to the office as a scheduling assistant and traffic manager. I then moved into the scheduler position where I coordinated and scheduled all the production and fabrication items, I did that job for 15+ years. From there, I had a couple of other positions before I moved into my current position in the shipping department.
Tell me a little bit about your day-to-day job currently?
Currently, I am the Expediting/Shipping Manager. Our department works with scheduling and the shop supervisors to expedite the parts throughout the shop and get the orders out to our customers. I call and coordinate with customers and delivery vendors on the status of their orders.
Working at Kice
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I really enjoy helping my customers, whether it’s my external customers and shipping vendors or internal employees I am working with at Kice. I enjoy many of the relationships I have established with them over the years.
Can you share one of the things that are unique about working at Kice?
There are great people to work with here. I think that is a result of the culture that has been passed down from generation to generation. I think this culture is what is so unique about the company and sets it apart from others.
What have been some of your most rewarding on-the-job experiences?
In 2006, I was heavily involved with the integration and setup of our new manufacturing software. We spent about nine months working with our reps and team members to get it set up. Before implementing this, most of the customer sheets that went to the production floor were handwritten or done in spreadsheets. With our work implementing the new software, the process became a faster, more efficient and relied a lot less on tribal knowledge.
